Hello Everyone!

This Friday, we're opening a Sundance hit that's written by, directed by and starring Eva Victor - SORRY, BABY. The Los Angeles Times  calls it, "an utterly captivating, entirely unique cinematic presence," and NPR says, "This is the kind of film that sneaks up on you, funny when least expected and affecting without being cloying. And it officially announces the arrival of Victor as a performer and filmmaker to keep on your radar."

This Friday, Saturday & Sunday, we'll host special 40th Anniversary screenings of the classic Merchant Ivory film A ROOM WITH A VIEW.  If you've seen the preview at THE NEON, it doesn't do the film justice at all - this remastering looks fantastic on the big screen.  This film took the arthouse cinema community by storm when it came out 40 years ago, and it's a really special film to me...as are so many films from this brilliant production company (like MAURICE, HOWARDS END, REMAINS OF THE DAY, MR & MRS BRIDGE, THE BOSTONIANS and so many more).  Don't miss this classic with some of our favorite Brits on screen - Maggie Smith, Helena Bonham Carter, Judi Dench, Daniel Day-Lewis and more!

If you still need to see DON'T LET'S GO TO THE DOGS TONIGHT, EVERYTHING'S GOING TO BE GREAT or MATERIALISTS, you're in luck - they'll stick around for another weekend and into early next week...then they all have to go.  Next Tuesday evening, we open a new horror film (we don't play too many of those) - TOGETHER - starring Dave Franco and Alison Brie.  This film was also a hit at Sundance, and though it's a gory "body-horror" film (as well as a film about a long-term relationship and a dark comedy), it's currnetly rated "100% Fresh" on rottentomatoes. 

"Open Caption Mondays" are a hit and much appreciated by many of our regulars.  On Monday, July 28, our screenings of DON'T LET'S GO TO THE DOGS TONIGHT, MATERIALISTS, EVERYTHING'S GOING TO BE GREAT and SORRY, BABY will be presented with Open Captions (aka - captions presented on the screen). 

Synopsis for SORRY, BABY:  "Something bad happened to Agnes, but life goes on for everyone else. When a beloved friend on the brink of a major milestone visits, Agnes starts to realize just how stuck she's been, and begins to work through how to move forward." (A24)

Synopsis for TOGETHER: "Years into their relationship, Tim and Millie (Dave Franco and Alison Brie) find themselves at a crossroads as they move to the country, abandoning all that is familiar in their lives except each other. With tensions already flaring, a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious, unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love, and their flesh." (Neon Releasing)
We have many NEON fans who have been asking why we don't play many horror films...so here's one that's currently rated "100% Fresh" on Rottentomatoes.  We'll see what happens!

He decided to create the Me2/Orchestra for people living with mental illness and those who support them, with the mission of erasing mental health stigma one concert at a time...

We're bringing back a personal favorite to the big screen for its 40th Anniversary - the classic Merchant Ivory arthouse hit A ROOM WITH A VIEW
With an all-star cast featuring many NEON regulars, this film is a gem. 
"In this British drama based on the novel by E.M. Forster, Lucy Honeychurch ( Helena Bonham-Carter) , a young Englishwoman, is touring Italy with her older cousin ( Maggie Smith).  At a hotel in Florence, Lucy meets the charming and free-spirited George Emerson ( Julian Sands).  Although intrigued by George, once she's back in England Lucy ponders settling down with the wealthy, staid Cecil Vyse ( Daniel Day-Lewis).  When George reappears in her life, Lucy must decide between him and Cecil." (And don't forget thatJudi Dench is in it, too!!)

OREGON STORIES - A Free Screening for Art In The City!

Join us during downtown's "Art In The City" for a special screening of this documentary OREGON STORIES - created in 2007 chronicling the rollicking history of Dayton’s Historic Oregon District. Full of great tales of people who lived it, OREGON STORIES brings history to life with a rich cast of characters and raises important contemporary questions about the nature of community.

This free screening will be "first come, first serve," with doors opening at 12:00 (Noon) on Aug. 2. One ticket per person.

PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE

"Victor & Mal's 'Cult Movie Night' returns for the month of August to celebrate the 40th anniversary and the life of our generation's most beloved TV character Pee-Wee Herman.  Originally released on August 11th 1985 and being the feature film debut of director Tim Burton, it was a match made in weirdo heaven... And being one of the most quotable, memorable films of our generation, there really is nothing like watching it with a group of Pee-Wee Fans.  So pull up on your bikes, and let's all have a Pee-Wee Party on August 21!  There will also be an extremely rare screening of the short film THE ORKLY KID starring E.G. Daily, who starred as Dottie PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE in a very early performance. THE ORKLEY KID is an incredibly unique short film from the BEAVER TRILOGY starring a young Crispin Glover in a performance you just have to see. Sponsored by Dayton's own Blood Scream Comics.
