BARBIE ARRIVES THURSDAY!
Hello Everyone,
For the last four weekends, we've been seeing great energy and attendance at THE
NEON...the best in over 3 years. Much thanks for all of your support! That said, we need to keep moving. If you still need to see ASTEROID CITY, Thursday afternoon will be your last chance. On Thursday evening, we open one of the most anticipated movies of the year - Greta Gerwig's BARBIE.
THE MIRACLE CLUB will stick around for another week, and we found a way to work a few encore screenings of THE LEAGUE into the mix!
We're so excited about BARBIE that we're adding some fun details to our opening weekend. In addition to a signature Barbie cocktail (and a non-alcoholic Barbie drink) that we'll put on the menu starting Thursday, we're planning a couple "theme days." If you wear Pink on Thursday evening (July 20), medium sized popcorns will be just $2. And all day Friday (July 21), bring your Barbies to THE
NEON and get $1 off any drink (including adult beverages).
Some of our regulars have been asking for the return of late shows on the weekends. Since we've got BARBIE, we're giving it a try on Friday and Saturday...and we'll see what happens. And stay tuned for some fun details about a special giveaway relating to our July 28 opening of THE BEANIE BUBBLE. More details next week.
"Open Caption Mondays" continue to be well-received. On Monday, July 24, BARBIE and THE MIRACLE CLUB will be presented with Open Captions (captions presented on the screen). As a reminder, seating is no longer assigned on Mondays-Thursdays for traditional engagements.
Synopsis for BARBIE: "To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full‐on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken. From Oscar‐nominated writer/director Greta Gerwig (LITTLE WOMEN & LADY BIRD) comes BARBIE, starring Oscar‐nominees Margot Robbie (I, TONYA and BABYLON) and Ryan Gosling (LA LA LAND, HALF NELSON & LARS AND THE REAL GIRL) as Barbie and Ken, alongside America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell." (Warner Brothers) The film also stars Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben‐Adir, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, Jamie Demetriou, Connor Swindells, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlan, Ritu Arya, Grammy Award‐winning singer/songwriter Dua Lipa and Oscar‐winner Helen Mirren. Our first screening of OKLAHOMA! was a big success...and we have one more screening tonight! "Oh, what a beautiful day! This July, the magic and energy of live theatre is coming to THE
NEON with the National Theatre’s acclaimed, Olivier Award-winning production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s OKLAHOMA! Starring then-newcomer Hugh Jackman (Les Misérables, The Greatest Showman) as Curly, alongside Maureen Lipman, Josefina Gabrielle and Shuler Hensley, this riveting stage production was filmed during its record-breaking 1998 run in London. Directed by theatre legend Trevor Nunn (CATS, Les Misérables) with choreography by Susan Stroman, OKLAHOMA! features some of musical theatre’s most delightfully hummable songs, including “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’,” “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top” and the joyous title tune, “Oklahoma.” Now one of the most beloved musicals ever to grace the stage is coming to the big screen 80 years after it first premiered on Broadway." Wednesday, July 19 at 7:15.
Tickets are still available! |

Our Friday Patio Parties have been a blast, and we truly appreciate the enthusiasm and participation from our Hosts and Guests. We have a highly visible corner in downtown Dayton, and we love adding more vibrancy beyond people coming and going to movies. Join us on the patio this Friday from 5:30-7:30 with Dayton's former Mayor, Rhine McLin. Ms. McLin made history as the first African American woman in the Ohio Senate and the very first female mayor of Dayton...and she continues to be a big supporter of Dayton and its many neighborhoods. We hope you'll come out to meet her. And once again, DJLu Rayfield will spin some tunes for us. |

"Preschool Promise has partnered with the creators of the award-winning documentary
BLACK BOYS to bring this powerful film to the Greater Dayton community and to spark conversation about positive changes that we can all make when we work together. This film shows what’s possible when we see Black boys and men in a different light and work to see equity from a new lens. BLACK BOYS, directed by Sonia Lowman, illuminates the spectrum of black male humanity in America. An intimate, inter-generational exploration, BLACK BOYS strives for insight into black identity and opportunity at the nexus of sports, education and criminal justice. The film elevates an urgent and timely reckoning on identity, opportunity and equity to reimagine success for Black males in America while also touching on their vulnerability and resilience in the face of dehumanization. Enjoy this powerful film at 10:00 A.M. on August 12 or September 30. You can reserve a spot and find out more by clicking the image below.

We are currently working hard to switch over to a new point of sale...one that will allow us to create memberships and track our business in a more efficient way. Along with this will come a new website and a new app - all of which we intent to implement in early August. That said, our current point of sale has informed us that they have updated our current app. If you're an app user and want to maintain usage of an app during the next month, you'll have to update to their new version (version 7.5.5). Even though you may not be able to see tickets that you've recently purchased, we'll have record of your recent sales at our box office (simply supply the attendant with your email address and we'll print tickets for you). We apologize for this inconvenience. |
Thank you for all your support! We hope to see you soon, Jonathan |
