First of all, I want to thank everyone who follows Dayton Daily News and registered on-line to vote for us as Dayton's "Best Movie Theater."  We're honored and proud to be named Dayton's Best.  Thank you!

This weekend, we're clearing the decks. If you still want to see THE INSTIGATORS, DANCE FIRST or WIDOW CLICQUOT, Thursday will be your last chance to see them at THE NEON.  On Thursday evening, we'll begin our run of the big Sundance winner DIDI, and on Friday, we'll open the crowd-pleaser MY PENGUIN FRIEND - starring Jean Reno.

"Open Caption Mondays" are back!  On Monday, Aug. 19 all screenings of DIDI and MY PENGUIN FRIEND will be presented with Open Captions (aka - captions presented on the screen).

Synopsis for MY PENGUIN FRIEND: "After being rescued from an oil spill, a little lost penguin transforms the life and soul of a heartbroken fisherman. The penguin and the fisherman become unlikely friends, so bonded that even the vast ocean cannot divide them." (Roadside Attractions) Based on the incredible true story, this crowd-pleaser stars the incredible Jean Reno.

AMERICAN DELIVERY - presented by Fiver Rivers Health Centers

TONIGHT!Join us for an interesting and informative evening with a free screening of AMERICAN DELIVERY (that includes Free Popcorn). The discussion and Q&A after the film will include representatives from Carolyn Jones Productions, the staff from Five Rivers Health Centers who are featured in the film and others who are working on the front lines to bring awareness to the high infant and maternal mortality rates in our area - particularly for Women of Color.  AMERICAN DELIVERY includes real-life stories of women who benefitted from midwifery care and how this method of care is positively impacting the pre-natal and delivery experiences for women in our community and across the country. Pregnant women who receive high quality, comprehensive pre-natal care, specifically from a midwife, are more likely to have positive birth outcomes. Cult Movie Night: BUBBA HO-TEP

THIS THURSDAY! Victor Bonacore's "Cult Movie Night" returns once again for a special screening of the Early 2000’s absurd and heartwarming horror-comedy starring the beloved cult icon Bruce Campbell as Elvis Presley and the legendary Ossie Davis as John F. Kennedy.  Elvis and JFK did not die, and today they're roommates in an East Texas nursing home whose residents are being killed by an ancient Egyptian Soul Sucker named Bubba Ho-Tep. After a long run with the PHANTASM franchise, writer/producer/director Don Coscarelli gave the genre film world yet another long-favored midnight movie gem in the form of 2002’s BUBBA HO-TEP. 
Also screening will be the Dayton Premiere of the short documentary MURDERABILIA - the true story of a survivor of the Dark Knight mass shooting in a Colorado movie theater in July 2012. Survivor and subject of the doc, Rowyn Richards, will be on hand to introduce the short.

Exhibition On Screen: CEZANNE

ENCORE JUST ADDED! "Dedicated to the portrait work of Paul Cézanne, the exhibition opens in Paris before traveling to London and Washington.  One cannot appreciate 20th century art without understanding the significance and genius of Paul Cézanne. Filmed at the National Portrait Gallery in London, with additional interviews from experts and curators from MoMA in New York, National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, and Musée d’Orsay in Paris, and correspondence from the artist himself, the film takes audiences to the places Cézanne lived and worked and sheds light on an artist who is perhaps one of the least known and yet most important of all the Impressionists." GETTING IT BACK: THE STORY OF CYMANDE

"In the racially turbulent UK of the early 70s, a group of black musicians came together in South London with a common love of rhythms and a message of peace. Cymande – with the dove as their symbol – combined jazz, funk, soul and Caribbean grooves to form a unique sound. Despite success in the USA they faced indifference in their native Britain, becoming disillusioned and disbanding. But the music lived on, as new generations of artists imbibed and reworked their pioneering sounds in fresh ways. From Soul II Soul to De La Soul, MC Solaar to The Fugees, the Dove had spread Cymande's message far and wide, prompting their return after forty years. This is their story." PAUL MCCARTNEY & WINGS: ONE HAND CLAPPING

Two special screenings of this new documentary are on the books!  Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 and Sunday, Sept. 29 at 5:15. Tickets will be $12.50 - available soon! "Directed by David Litchfield, this film captured a moment when Paul McCartney and Wings had found and defined their signature sound. Filmed over four days at Abbey Road Studios in August 1974, the film provides an insight into the inner workings of the band as they work and play together in the studio. Including performances of tracks from Wings masterpiece Band on the Run (released in 1973), intimate footage of the band hanging out in the studio, combined with audio interview snippets, the film also includes previously unreleased full footage of a solo acoustic performance by Paul called The Backyard Sessions."
