Hello Everyone!

This Friday, we're opening a film that is based on a beloved novel/memoir - DON'T LET'S GO TO THE DOGS TONIGHT.  (A lot of folks are getting tripped up on the title, but if you take out the contractions, it reads a little easier - "Do Not Let Us Go To The Dogs Tonight."). The film has one of the best child performances in a long time, the photography is lovely, and the story is quite powerful.

And speaking of child performances, we plan to bring the film SKETCH for show(s) in early August...so if you're looking to introduce 'tweens and teens to THE NEON, this will be a perfect opportunity.  It's a wonderful little film that I saw in Toronto last Fall, and the director pitched the film as "INSIDE OUT meets JURASSIC PARK."  (You can watch the trailer for SKETCH Here.) Dates/times will be determined down the road.

If you still need to see EVERYTHING'S GOING TO BE GREAT or MATERIALISTS, you're in luck - they'll stick around for another week.  The exquisite restoration of IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE and the hysterical BAD SHABBOS will have their final day tomorrow (Thur, July 17).

"Open Caption Mondays" are a hit and much appreciated by many of our regulars.  On Monday, July 21, our screenings of DON'T LET'S GO TO THE DOGS TONIGHT, MATERIALISTS and EVERYTHING'S GOING TO BE GREAT will be presented with Open Captions (aka - captions presented on the screen).

MISS CONGENIALITY

THIS SUNDAY! Get ready for an afternoon of creativity, entertainment, and social activism at Crafty Cinema for a Cause at THE NEON hosted by the Savage Stitcher (Angie). This unique charity event brings together the joy of crafting with the magic of film, all while supporting the Greater Dayton LGBT Center. Bring your own craft project that you can work on in your seat, such as crochet, knitting, embroidery, cross stitch, etc. and we will all enjoy an afternoon showing of the MISS CONGENIALITY with the lights up so you can work on a project you’ve been putting off, or start something new. A recommended donation of $20 will be collected at the door and all proceeds will go to our local LGBTQIA+ support organization. There are a limited number of seats available for reservation on Eventbrite (payment will still be collected at the event) and the rest will be offered as first-come-first-serve at the door.

"Victor & Mal's 'Cult Movie Night' returns for the month of August to celebrate the 40th anniversary and the life of our generation's most beloved TV character Pee-Wee Herman.  Originally released on August 11th 1985 and being the feature film debut of director Tim Burton, it was a match made in weirdo heaven... And being one of the most quotable, memorable films of our generation, there really is nothing like watching it with a group of Pee-Wee Fans.  So pull up on your bikes, and let's all have a Pee-Wee Party on August 21!  There will also be an extremely rare screening of the short film THE ORKLY KID starring E.G. Daily, who starred as Dottie PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE in a very early performance. THE ORKLEY KID is an incredibly unique short film from the BEAVER TRILOGY starring a young Crispin Glover in a performance you just have to see. Sponsored by Dayton's own Blood Scream Comics.
