Hello Everyone,
We are still on a very good stretch at THE NEON...and we know we've got big crowds in the wings for the upcoming weekend. If you still need to see THEATER CAMP (which folks have been loving), or if you want to see BARBIE again (some folks are seeing it 3 and 4 times), you've got another week to catch them. And if you're distraught that you don't have tickets to our sold out screening of FRIDA KAHLO on Sunday - hop on our site and secure tickets for next Wednesday's encore! Next Friday, we will open JULES - the charmingly quirky new film starring Ben Kingsley. (FYI - Tickets for GOLDA (starting Aug 24) go on sale this Friday!)
Last Thursday, we switched over to a new website and overall new point of sale in our lobby (a new app will be available very, very soon, too). We've still got some learning to do regarding everything that's possible with our new system, but overall, the response has been quite positive. If you're reading this newsletter in your web browser, then you can "claim" your email address in our new system. Just go to our website and create an account so you can start earning points toward free popcorn!
"Open Caption Mondays" continue to be well-received. On Monday, Aug. 14, BARBIE and THEATER CAMP will be presented with Open Captions (captions presented on the screen). As a reminder, seating is no longer assigned on Mondays-Thursdays for traditional engagements.
Need refreshers about our 2 current engagements? Click the pictures below to watch each film's trailer. |

Our Friday Patio Parties have become the place to be! We have a highly visible corner in downtown Dayton, and we love adding more vibrancy beyond people coming and going to movies. Join us on the patio this Friday from 5:30-7:30 with Juliet Fromholt & Sabrina Cox. If you're a fan of WYSO (I certainly am!), then you at least know Juliet's voice and have heard her at work...and if you spend any time downtown, then you've likely seen the fun and vibrant art work/design of Sabrina's Haus of Sequins. Come meet them both in person on our patio! And we're delighted that DJ Lu will be spinning some tunes for us again. We hope you can make it! |

"Preschool Promise has partnered with the creators of the award-winning documentary
BLACK BOYS to bring this powerful film to the Greater Dayton community and to spark conversation about positive changes that we can all make when we work together. This film shows what’s possible when we see Black boys and men in a different light and work to see equity from a new lens. BLACK BOYS, directed by Sonia Lowman, illuminates the spectrum of black male humanity in America. An intimate, inter-generational exploration, BLACK BOYS strives for insight into black identity and opportunity at the nexus of sports, education and criminal justice. The film elevates an urgent and timely reckoning on identity, opportunity and equity to reimagine success for Black males in America while also touching on their vulnerability and resilience in the face of dehumanization. Enjoy this powerful film at 10:00 A.M. on August 12 or September 30. You can reserve a spot and find out more by clicking the image below.

A note from Dana Graham, founder and creative director of Scripted In Black: "Summer is here, and so is the need for more entertainment, community, and high-vibe events for the culture. We're pleased to announce the return of our 3rd Annual Movie Night series. But this time, we’re back, better, and with a new name! Formerly known as SIB Movie Nights at our host location THE NEON, the new and improved Reel Culture Films: Summer Movie Series will be expanding to three different locations across Montgomery and Clark counties. Thanks to our generous sponsors, we are also now able to offer these cinematic experiences at absolutely no cost to attendees! You read it right, for free! We will be showing Spike Lee’s innovative take on adolescence CROOKLYN at THE NEON on August 27th at 4:00pm. The Social Hour (2:30-3:30) will feature delicious and soul satisfying food from Baldhead Tone's Food Truck and an outside Summer vibe of nostalgia and togetherness right here in the heart of downtown Dayton."
