Hello Everyone!

We're cleaning house this week!  If you need to see WILL & HARPER, MERCHANT IVORY or THE CRITIC, you'll need to hurry down.  Thursday will be the last day for all three films.  On Friday, we open LEE - the new film about the model-turned-photographer Lee Miller starring Kate Winslet.  In addition, we're adding a new comedy to the mix - MY OLD ASS - starring Aubrey Plaza.

Final touches are happening for our 19th Annual OUT HERE DAYTON FILM FEST. Be sure to check out the line-up at:  www.outheredayton.org !  We're currently looking for volunteers to help us with the festival...people to help with tickets, programs, ballots, seating, etc. We're hoping to find 2 people for each of the following timeslots: Thu, Oct. 10th - 6PM-8PM; Fri, Oct. 11th - 6PM-10PM (these volunteers must be 21 or older); Sat, Oct 12th - 11:30AM-3:45PM. "Open Caption Mondays" are back!  On Monday, Sept. 30, all screenings of LEE and MY OLD ASS will be presented with Open Captions (aka - captions presented on the screen). 

Synopsis for LEE: "The directorial feature from award-winning Cinematographer Ellen Kuras portrays a pivotal decade in the life of American war correspondent and photographer Lee Miller (Kate Winslet). Miller’s singular talent and unbridled tenacity resulted in some of the 20th century’s most indelible images of war, including an iconic photo of Miller herself, posing defiantly in Hitler’s private bathtub. Miller had a profound understanding and empathy for women and the voiceless victims of war. Her images display both the fragility and ferocity of the human experience. Synopsis for MY OLD ASS: "An 18th birthday mushroom trip brings free-spirited Elliott face-to-face with her wisecracking 39-year-old self. But when Elliott’s 'old ass' starts handing out warnings about what her younger self should and shouldn't do, Elliott realizes she has to rethink everything about family, love, and what's becoming a transformative summer." PAUL MCCARTNEY & WINGS: ONE HAND CLAPPING

Two special screenings of this new documentary are on the books! Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 and Sunday, Sept. 29 at 5:15. Tickets are available now!"Directed by David Litchfield, this film captured a moment when Paul McCartney and Wings had found and defined their signature sound. Filmed over four days at Abbey Road Studios in August 1974, the film provides an insight into the inner workings of the band as they work and play together in the studio. Including performances of tracks from Wings masterpiece Band on the Run (released in 1973), intimate footage of the band hanging out in the studio, combined with audio interview snippets, the film also includes previously unreleased full footage of a solo acoustic performance by Paul called The Backyard Sessions." 2nd In OHIO-MADE HORROR TRILOGY THIS SATURDAY

Based in Ashland, Ohio, Good Deed Entertainment is bringing 3 horror films to us on consecutive Saturday nights starting in late September - The FRESH HELL Trilogy.  Shows begin at 10:00, and tickets are regular price. The second in the trilogy - WOLVES AGAINST THE WORLD - will screen on Saturday, Sept. 28. The final movie of the trilogy - DEAD TEENAGERS - will screen on Saturday, Oct. 5. CULT MOVIE NIGHT: TRICK 'R TREAT

"Victor Bonacore's CULT MOVIE NIGHT is celebrating its 1 year anniversary at THE NEON with a newer cult classic, the 2007 Halloween anthology film  TRICK 'R TREAT.   It’s Halloween night in small-town Ohio as the film follows five interwoven stories, a killer principal, a cursed jack-o-lantern, a bus massacre, a monster bonfire, and dead trick-or-treaters all on one block in one night. Starring Anna Paquin of TRUE BLOOD, Brian Cox (SUPER TROOPERS), the creepy dad from HAPPINESS and the kid from BAD SANTA & directed by Michael Dougherty who went on to direct the Christmas horror hit film KRAMPUS.  Come see the film as it was intended, on the big screen and with a fun audience.  Often referred to as PULP FICTION for horror fans, this movie has definitely earned its spot on the Halloween season watch list.

THE BEST OF THE BEST: JAZZ FROM DETROIT is a landmark — the first documentary film to explore the dynamic story of the city’s innovative and influential jazz musicians. Inspired by Mark Stryker’s award-winning 2019 book JAZZ FROM DETROIT, the feature-length film makes the case that you can’t tell the history of jazz without telling the history of jazz from Detroit...The film features legends like Elvin Jones, Yusef Lateef, and Ron Carter along with today’s stars like Karriem Riggins, Kenny Garrett, and Regina Carter, all worldclass jazz musicians who have rolled off Detroit’s assembly line. 
WYSO's Dave Barber will host a post screening talk session with writer and co-producer Mark Stryker, arts reporter and critic at the Detroit Free Press for 21 years. SLASHER NIGHT 2024 - WES CRAVEN NIGHT

Slasher Night at THE NEON - hosted by Bryan Bardine & Christopher Burnside from the UD English Department - returns for the third year with two more classic slasher films on October 29! This year, it's a Wes Craven double feature, with the original A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, written and directed by Wes Craven, followed by the original SCREAM, written by Kevin Williamson and directed by Wes Craven. Both movies were so good that they each spawned large franchises. If you've never seen these iconic slashers on the big screen before, this is the perfect opportunity to watch them as Wes Craven intended. A $20 ticket buys access to both films - Tuesday, Oct. 29 starting at 7:30.
