MIRACLE CLUB & THE LEAGUE Start Friday!

Hello Everyone,

We've got a lot to cover this summer, so we've got to move on. If you still need to see the incredible film  PAST LIVES, Thursday will be your last chance. On Friday, we open  THE MIRACLE CLUB - starring a phenomenal ensemble featuring Maggie Smith, Laura Linney and Kathy Bates. We'll also start a handful of screenings of  THE LEAGUE - a documentary about The Negro Leagues - which has a rich history in Dayton. I'd like to thank Michael Carter, the Chief Diversity Officer at Sinclair Community College, for loaning us some memorabilia from The Negro Leagues. You can check it out in our lobby over the weekend!  ASTEROID CITY, our biggest hit in a long time, is sticking around for one more week.

"Open Caption Mondays" continue to be well-received. On Monday, July 17, ASTEROID CITY and THE MIRACLE CLUB will be presented with Open Captions (captions presented on the screen). As a reminder, seating is no longer assigned on Mondays-Thursdays for traditional engagements.

NEW ENGAGEMENTS:

Synopsis for THE MIRACLE CLUB: "Set in 1967, THE MIRACLE CLUB follows the story of three generations of close friends, Lily (Maggie Smith), Eileen (Kathy Bates), and Dolly (Agnes O'Casey) of Ballygar, a hard-knocks community in Dublin, who have one tantalizing dream: to win a pilgrimage to the sacred French town of Lourdes, that place of miracles that draws millions of visitors each year. When the chance to win presents itself, the women seize it. However, just before their trip, their old friend Chrissie (Laura Linney) arrives in Ballygar for her mother's funeral, dampening their good mood and well-laid plans. The women set out on the journey that they hope will change their lives, with Chrissie, a skeptical traveler, joining in place of her mother. The glamour and sophistication of Chrissie, who has just returned from a nearly 40-year exile in the United States, are not her only distancing traits: Old wounds are reopened along the way, forcing the women to confront their pasts even as they travel in search of a miracle." Synopsis for  THE LEAGUE: "Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sam Pollard (MLK/FBI), executive produced by Ahmir 'Questlove' Thompson (Oscar-winning SUMMER OF SOUL), Tariq Trotter (DESCENDANT), and produced by RadicalMedia, THE LEAGUE celebrates the dynamic journey of Negro League baseball's triumphs and challenges through the first half of the twentieth century. The story is told through previously unearthed archival footage and never-before-seen interviews with legendary players like Satchel Paige and Buck O’Neil – whose early careers paved the way for the Jackie Robinson era – as well as celebrated Hall of Famers Willie Mays and Hank Aaron who started out in the Negro Leagues. From entrepreneurial titans Cumberland Posey and Gus Greenlee, whose intense rivalry fueled the rise of two of the best baseball teams ever to play the game, to Effa Manley, the activist owner of the Newark Eagles and the only woman ever admitted to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, THE LEAGUE explores Black baseball as an economic and social pillar of Black communities and a stage for some of the greatest athletes to ever play the game, while also examining the unintended consequences of integration." We are currently working hard to switch over to a new point of sale...one that will allow us to create memberships and track our business in a more efficient way. Along with this will come a new website and a new app - all of which we intent to implement in early August. That said, our current point of sale has informed us that they have updated our current app. If you're an app user and want to maintain usage of an app during the next month, you'll have to update to their new version (version 7.5.5). Even though you may not be able to see tickets that you've recently purchased, we'll have record of your recent sales at our box office (simply supply the attendant with your email address and we'll print tickets for you). We apologize for this inconvenience.

Thank you for all your support!

We hope to see you soon,

Jonathan
