Hello Everyone!

We're cleaning house this weekend to make way for a couple new films, an encore, and a one-time screening about an entertainment icon. This Thursday marks the start of the new film from brilliant filmmaker Bong Joon Ho (director of the Oscar-winning PARASITE) - MICKEY 17 - starring Robert Pattinson.  This film just premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, and audiences are loving it. Then on Friday, we'll begin a one-week run of this year's winner of "Best Documentary Feature" - NO OTHER LAND.  And speaking of winners, we're bringing back ANORA - winner of 5 Oscars including "Best Picture." (Sean Baker's acceptance speech for ANORA was pretty special for us at THE NEON and small, independent cinemas everywhere...you can watch it HERE.) On Sunday, we'll have a one-time screening of an truly special documentary - LIZA: A TRULY TERRIFIC ABSOLUTELY TRUE STORY.

"Open Caption Mondays" are a hit and much appreciated by many of our regulars.  On Monday, March 10, our screenings of MICKEY 17 and ANORA will be presented with Open Captions (aka - captions presented on the screen).

Synopsis for MICKEY 17: We're excited to bring Bong Joon Ho's latest film to THE NEON! "Mickey Barnes has found himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job… to die, for a living." Starring Robert Pattinson.  
Bong Joon Ho's PARASITE was a huge hit for us back in 2019/2020...let's see what happens with this one!

Synopsis for NO OTHER LAND: Winner of "Best Documentary Feature" at this weekend's Academy Awards! This film made by a Palestinian-Israeli collective shows the destruction of the occupied West Bank's Masafer Yatta by Israeli soldiers and the alliance which develops between the Palestinian activist Basel and Israeli journalist Yuval.

Synopsis for ANORA: "Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, gets her chance at a Cinderella story when she meets and impulsively marries the son of an oligarch. Once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened as the parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled. From Sean Baker - director of THE FLORIDA PROJECT, TANGERINE and RED ROCKET.
Director Sean Baker set a record at this year's Academy Awards.  He won 4 Oscars for the same film..."Best Picture," "Best Director," "Best Editing," and "Best Screenplay."

DAWN OF IMPRESSIONISM: PARIS 1874

TICKETS ARE FLYING! Join us with our friends from Dayton Art Institute for our next edition of Exhibition on Screen. "The Impressionists are the most popular group in art history - millions flock every year to marvel at their masterpieces. But, to begin with, they were scorned, penniless outsiders. 1874 was the year that changed everything; the first Impressionists, “hungry for independence”, broke the mould by holding their own exhibition outside official channels. Impressionism was born and the art world was changed forever.
The screening will be followed by a presentation from Dr. Jerry Smith, chief curator at Dayton Art Institute.

By syncing Keaton's brilliant slapstick comedy and masterful physical performances with R.E.M. music, the result is a vibrant, surreal experience where Keaton’s absurdly funny adventures as a bumbling, yet lovable detective are accompanied by songs that match the emotional beats, themes, and whimsy of his world. CRAFTY CINEMA: BARBIE Edition

Get ready for an afternoon of creativity, entertainment, and social activism at "Crafty Cinema for a Cause" - hosted by the Savage Stitcher (Angie). This unique charity event brings together the joy of crafting with the magic of film, all while supporting our local Planned Parenthood. Bring your own craft project that you can work on in your seat, such as crochet, knitting, embroidery, cross stitch, etc. and we will all enjoy an afternoon showing of BARBIE with the lights up so you can work on a project you’ve been putting off, or start something new. A recommended donation of $20 will be collected at the door and all proceeds will go to our local Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio. There are a limited number of seats available for reservation on Eventbrite (payment will still be collected at the event) and the rest will be offered as first-come-first-serve at the door."
