Hello Everyone!

Special thanks to everyone who came out and made our first weekend of SING SING a success!  The response to this film has been terrific, and it will stick around for a second week.  If you still need to see DIDI, Thursday will be its last day with us.  On Friday, we will open the award-winning indie gem GOOD ONE.  MY PENGUIN FRIEND will stick around for one show per day for one more week.

Next Friday, we have room to add a film that several of you have asked out - BETWEEN THE TEMPLES - a comedy starring Jason Schwartzman and Carol Kane.

One week from today, I'll head to the Toronto International Film Festival - where I plan to see 35+ films over the course of 10 days.  This trip is always a highlight of my year, and next week, I'll have a link where you can check out my daily blog that will focus on the films I'm seeing, the gatherings I'm attending, and the stars I'm spotting.  Stay tuned!

Later today, we plan to launch the official website for this year's edition of OUT HERE DAYTON FILM FEST - which just received an ArtRISE grant from Ohio Arts Council!  This will be our 19th year celebrating the best in LGBTQIA+ cinema from around the world, and the fest is set for Oct. 10-13. "Open Caption Mondays" are back!  On Monday, Sept. 2, all screenings of GOOD ONE, SING SING and MY PENGUIN FRIEND will be presented with Open Captions (aka - captions presented on the screen).

Exhibition On Screen: CEZANNE

GETTING IT BACK: THE STORY OF CYMANDE

"In the racially turbulent UK of the early 70s, a group of black musicians came together in South London with a common love of rhythms and a message of peace. Cymande – with the dove as their symbol – combined jazz, funk, soul and Caribbean grooves to form a unique sound. Despite success in the USA they faced indifference in their native Britain, becoming disillusioned and disbanding. But the music lived on, as new generations of artists imbibed and reworked their pioneering sounds in fresh ways. From Soul II Soul to De La Soul, MC Solaar to The Fugees, the Dove had spread Cymande's message far and wide, prompting their return after forty years. This is their story." PAUL MCCARTNEY & WINGS: ONE HAND CLAPPING

Two special screenings of this new documentary are on the books!  Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 and Sunday, Sept. 29 at 5:15. Tickets are available now! "Directed by David Litchfield, this film captured a moment when Paul McCartney and Wings had found and defined their signature sound. Filmed over four days at Abbey Road Studios in August 1974, the film provides an insight into the inner workings of the band as they work and play together in the studio. Including performances of tracks from Wings masterpiece Band on the Run (released in 1973), intimate footage of the band hanging out in the studio, combined with audio interview snippets, the film also includes previously unreleased full footage of a solo acoustic performance by Paul called The Backyard Sessions." OHIO-MADE HORROR TRILOGY

Based in Ashland, Ohio, Good Deed Entertainment is bringing 3 horror films to us on consecutive Saturday nights starting in late September - The FRESH HELL Trilogy.  Shows begin at 10:00, and tickets are regular price.  The first in the trilogy is THE EXORCISM OF ST. PATRICK will screen on Saturday, Sept. 21. The second in the trilogy - WOLVES AGAINST THE WORLD - will screen on Saturday, Sept. 28. The final movie of the trilogy - DEAD TEENAGERS - will screen on Saturday, Oct. 5. More details about each of the movies are available on our website.

CULT MOVIE NIGHT: TRICK 'R TREAT

"Victor Bonacore's CULT MOVIE NIGHT is celebrating its 1 year anniversary at THE NEON with a newer cult classic, the 2007 Halloween anthology film  TRICK 'R TREAT.   It’s Halloween night in small-town Ohio as the film follows five interwoven stories, a killer principal, a cursed jack-o-lantern, a bus massacre, a monster bonfire, and dead trick-or-treaters all on one block in one night. Starring Anna Paquin of TRUE BLOOD, Brian Cox (SUPER TROOPERS), the creepy dad from HAPPINESS and the kid from BAD SANTA & directed by Michael Dougherty who went on to direct the Christmas horror hit film KRAMPUS.  Come see the film as it was intended, on the big screen and with a fun audience.  Often referred to as PULP FICTION for horror fans, this movie has definitely earned its spot on the Halloween season watch list.
