Hello Everyone!

Wow!  That storm was a whopper. Regardless, we managed to open our doors each day as scheduled.  With hundreds of people living within blocks of our front doors, we prefer to have fresh coffee ready and proceed as scheduled with our screenings if some (or even one) of us are able to safely get to the cinema.

This weekend has a lot going on!  First off, we're opening a film that many of you have been asking about for several weeks - THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE.  Secondly, if you stayed home to wait out the storm this weekend, you're in luck...we're holding almost everything for a handful of shows - HAMNET, THE SECRET AGENT, and H IS FOR HAWK.  (If you still need to see DEAD MAN'S WIRE, you'll need to hurry.  Its last screening is today at 5:10 - Wed, Jan 28.)  On top of all those, we're so excited to bring back a record-breaking hit - SINNERS!  Nominated for the most Academy Awards ever (16!), SINNERS garnered a second Oscar nomination for Dayton's own Hannah Beachler (who won her first Oscar for "Best Production Design" for BLACK PANTHER).  We've been following Beachler's work since she was a student at Wright State...and so many feature films she worked on have screened here - FRUITVALE STATION, MOONLIGHT, MILES AHEAD, DARK WATERS and more.  We're happy to celebrate her success with a return engagement of SINNERS - which shouldn't be missed on the big screen.

Be sure to pay special attention to this week's schedule.  With such a variety of films (and just 2 screens), showtimes change daily.  In addition to our traditional engagements, we have special screenings, too - IRON LUNG, YOU GOT GOLD and GROUNDHOG DAY.

Next week, we plan to open 2 more movies that have had several requests - Park Chan-wook's NO OTHER CHOICE and THE CHORAL - starring Ralph Fiennes.

Despite the oncoming storm this past Saturday, we had a great visit from our friends at The Glen Helen Raptor Center.  They joined us for 3 screenings of H IS FOR HAWK, and it was a delight to have such majestic birds in our lobby (I've included a few photos below).  Many thanks to everyone who came out! "Open Caption Mondays" are much appreciated by many of our regulars.  On Monday, February 2, our screenings of THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE, HAMNET and H IS FOR HAWK will be presented with Open Captions (aka - captions presented on the screen).

IRON LUNG

Late last year, we had at least 50 emails, phone calls and social media requests for IRON LUNG - a new horror film made by Markiplier - a famous YouTube creator with a very loyal following. The requests kept coming, so we went ahead and booked the film to open with 3 shows starting on Jan. 29...then we booked 3 more. We were the first cinema in the region to book this movie, and based on indie ticket sales, the multiplexes decided to book it, too.  We truly appreciate everyone who has chosen to see this movie with us.

"This concert film was shot in October, 2022, over two nights at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. We're celebrating Groundhog Day on Groundhog Day with a special screening of GROUNDHOG DAY in 2026! "A narcissistic TV weatherman, along with his attractive-but-distant producer, and his mawkish cameraman, is sent to report on Groundhog Day in the small town of Punxsutawney, where he finds himself repeating the same day over and over."

I love Stephen Sondheim!  When this show was announced on Broadway, I was quick to get tickets...and it was sensational! I'm so glad that the team decided to professionally record this show - the stars aligned and it is the best staging ever...and now we can enjoy it on the big screen.

The Junior Leaguers Club of Dayton presents HOLLYWOOD BLACK

Junior Leaguers Club of Dayton will present their 15th Annual Scholarship Fundraiser with the first 2 episodes of the docuseries HOLLYWOOD BLACK - directed by Justin Simien and based on the book by African American film historian Donald Bogle - author of six books on Black History in film and television.  This documentary will give attendees an historical perspective of Black cinema, the journey told in a structured timeline helping each attendee connect the dots from the silent era to current movies and artists struggle.  A discussion will follow the screening.

Ticket prices are $25 for adults (which includes the price of admission, popcorn, soda, and wine) and $10 for students (which includes the price of admission, popcorn, and soda).  Tickets can be purchased in-person at THE NEON or from any JLC member.

Exhibition On Screen at THE NEON

"Celebrating the 250th anniversary of their births, this unmissable new documentary explores Turner and Constable’s intertwined lives and legacies alongside the groundbreaking Tate exhibition. Two of Britain’s greatest painters, J.M.W. Turner and John Constable were also the greatest of rivals. Born within a year of each other, both used landscape painting to reflect the changing world around them. Tate Britain is bringing these two greats together for a groundbreaking exhibition, in London from November 2025 to April 2026, and Exhibition on Screen once again has exclusive and privileged access to bring their extraordinary art and remarkable stories to the big screen."
