Hello Everyone!

This Friday, we're opening a really special, award-winning film - WE GROWN NOW - currently rated "95% Fresh" on rottentomatoes!

With fantastic reviews, the sexy and tension-filled tennis drama CHALLENGERS will stick around for a second week - and our audiences have really been enjoying this "love" triangle.  WICKED LITTLE LETTERS is still performing better than almost anything else we've had over the last couple months - so it will stick around for a fifth week!

Next week, we have 2 surprise bookings in store for you.  The first is the best reviewed film to get a release this year - NOWHERE SPECIAL...and the second is a Sci-Fi film set in the future and the past - THE BEAST.  Click either title to learn more about each film.

Tickets are on sale now for opening weekend of both BACK TO BLACK - the Amy Winehouse biopic (set to open May 16) and WILDCAT - the film based on the life and short stories of Flannery O'Connor (set top open May 24).  If you're interested in learning more about the filmmaking process, you'll want to join us on Saturday, May 25 at 7:30...we'll have actress Christine Dye (who plays Duchess in WILDCAT) in for a special Q&A, and she'll be joined by producer Karri O'Reilly!

"Open Caption Mondays" are back!  On Monday, May 6, all screenings of WICKED LITTLE LETTERS, CHALLENGERS and WE GROWN NOW will be presented with Open Captions (aka - captions presented on the screen).

Synopsis for WE GROWN NOW: "Two young boys, best friends Malik and Eric, discover the joys and hardships of growing up in the sprawling Cabrini-Green public housing complex in 1992 Chicago. As these wide-eyed and imaginative best friends look to escape the mundaneness of school and the hardships of growing up in public housing, their unbreakable bond is challenged when tragedy shakes their community just as they are learning to fly." BIG LENS WSU STUDENT SHOWCASE

ENCORE ADDED! "The 36th annual student showcase of the award-winning Wright State University's Motion Picture Department sold out very quickly, and an encore has been added! Featuring nine diverse and multi-genre student films! From comedies to thrillers, to even a documentary, we have it all at this year's Big Lens! Encore screening will take place Thursday, May 2 at 7:30. Tickets are $10 each."

ENCORE ADDED! Our next Exhibition On Screen event  is set for Sunday, May 5 at 5pm - JOHN SINGER SARGENT: FASHION & SWAGGER. "John Singer Sargent is known as the greatest portrait artist of his era. What made his ‘swagger’ portraits remarkable was his power over his sitters, what they wore and how they were presented to the audience. Through interviews with curators, contemporary fashionistas and style influencers, Exhibition on Screen’s film will examine how Sargent’s unique practice has influenced modern art, culture and fashion." An encore of this documentary is now set for Wednesday, May 15 at 7:30.

GUMMO

DAYTON BLACK WOMEN'S FILM FESTIVAL

“The inaugural DAYTON BLACK WOMEN'S FILM FESTIVAL promises to be a groundbreaking showcase celebrating the creative talents of Black women in the film industry. Featuring films written, directed, and produced by Black women, the festival aims to provide a platform for diverse voices and perspectives. With submissions from Dayton, across the United States, and internationally, attendees can expect a rich tapestry of storytelling that reflects the multifaceted experiences of Black women. Join us for a special one-time screening of the documentary that chronicles the story of H.C. Westermann - a marine veteran who navigated the profound traumas of war by making art, becoming a hero to generations of artists, including his friends Ed Ruscha and Frank Gehry, among others interviewed in this immersive film.
